Reflection

1. I can see using youtube, as there are many dance steps taught in detail on that sight. I can use it to teach myself the steps, and/or we can use it as a station, where the students teach it to themselves.

2. As I don't feel very computer savvy, yet, I would like to collaborate with other Health Fitness teachers in the district, informally as well as in structured learning environments how to actually incorporate much of this in to our everyday Health Fitness activities.

3. I think there were several unexpected outcomes as a result of the 11 tools training. First, and I know I have seen this on several blogs...the time factor. Yes, there was a multitude of information, very important, and very interesting. However, giving 9 hours of staff development credit for something that took MANY more hours than that, is unrealistic. Secondly, as the deadline for the 11 tools approached, I was faced with an unexpected and unfortunate situation. I was out of town for 18 days, due to the illness and untimely death of my father, and could not finish by the deadline. No one really knew what I should do. Third, I did attend a help session, that was very helpful. I think that an introductory class should have been offered to get us started off on the right foot, so to speak, and subsequent help sessions along the way.

Tool #11

To me there is nothing more important that we can teach our students than to teach them to keep themselves SAFE!! In this world we live in, technology can be such a wonderful tool, whether to learn, to shop, or to keep in touch with family and friends. However, unless we teach our students to use the internet properly, we might be putting them at risk. I would definitely teach my students to NEVER give out their name or any other personal information, or tell them to only do so with their parents by their side.
Secondly, I would want them to know that not EVERYTHING they see or read on the internet is true. We used to think that if we read something in the newspaper or a magazine, that it was true. Now many of us think that with the internet. When researching, I have told my students to use a rule of "3". If three internet sights say the same thing, it probably is true. Also, I have taught them in the past, the names of different suffix/email addresses...which ones are ads, which are from educational institutions, etc.
Third, I think of the unwritten rule of digital etiquette. I often remind my husband that USING ALL CAPS IS SHOUTING!! One thing I would make sure my students know is that once you write something in an email, or on facebook or anywhere else on the internet....it is there, pretty much forever, for any one to see.

Tool #10

We try to keep our classes very active but being able to use an i-touch might be a good tool for the students that are injured and cannot participate for a length of time. I can also see the possibility of using it as a station, where small groups of students would be at a particular station using it for a short length of time.

Tool #9

I can see Screencast being used to help students document their own workout activities to share and motivate other students. I think that Skype could be used for interactive activities and classes with online instructors.

Tool 8

I posted two videos on my blog today. One I got from School Tube that is directed at parents to show dangers of inactivity among our youth today. The other is a from country singer, Kenny Chesney. It is his video for his recent song "Boys of Fall."
The song and video try to show the importance of sports in the lives of our youth. It is not always about the wins and losses, but more about the life lessons taught through sports. I hope you enjoy it.

tool #& I think!

Have tried for over an hour to upload photos to add music and create a power point presentation...could not get it to work. Will try later.

Tool #6

Unfortunately, I cannot see using wikis in elementary Health Fitness classses. Previously I taught high school Health and can see the benefits of wikis in that typeof environment.
